Mohican 100 Mile Endurance Run

Race Overview

The Mohican 100 Mile Endurance Run stands as Ohio’s premier trail ultramarathon, featuring a challenging 100-mile loop course through the scenic and rugged terrain of Mohican State Forest in central Ohio. Established in 1999 by race directors Fritz Bauerle and Regina Bauerle, this legendary event has grown from a small grassroots gathering to one of the Midwest’s most respected ultramarathons, combining technical trail challenges with the famous “Mohican Magic” atmosphere.

What makes the Mohican 100 Mile Endurance Run unique is its demanding 25-mile loop course repeated four times, featuring over 10,000 feet of elevation gain through Ohio’s most challenging trail terrain. The course runs primarily on the notorious Bridle Trail, known for its relentless root systems, creek crossings, and constant undulating hills that test runners’ technical skills and mental fortitude. The race takes place in early June when Ohio’s humidity and heat add another layer of difficulty to an already demanding course.

The Mohican 100 has earned its reputation as one of the most challenging 100-mile races in the Midwest, with completion rates typically ranging from 55-75%, depending on weather conditions. The race attracts both experienced ultrarunners seeking a tough challenge and first-time 100-mile runners drawn to the supportive community atmosphere. Its early summer timing and challenging but achievable course design have made it a popular choice for runners preparing for Western mountain races or seeking their first 100-mile finish in a supportive, well-organized environment.

How to Qualify & Enter

Entry to the Mohican 100 is moderately competitive and requires meeting specific qualifying standards. The race typically accepts 300-350 runners total, making it more accessible than many Western ultramarathons while maintaining high standards for participant experience.
